An interesting coin from the last monarch's reign, featuring the long-lasting design with 5-pointed stars on the sides of the denomination. It is in collectible condition with all letters clearly readable, which is not so frequent since circulation ended almost two decades later and most early-struck coins became heavily worn. The Rev. shows mint mark С.П.Б. in center inside the wreath, it is an abbreviation of a German word. Due to declaration of Germany as official enemy to all Russians and the world in 1914 the name of the mint was switched immediately from Saint-Petersburg to Petrograd - the same but in Russian style. Starting from the next year the mint did not put marks anymore for years till 1975. Though the mint mark is of mint situated close to Asia, de facto the coinage was performed at Birmingham using the same obverse die. For varieties lovers: recently main dies were discovered by the seller and standard classification was developed.

This coin was struck by die A with inner leaf at second chain close to the top one. For high interest of collectors to varieties the standard classification was published in world section eucoins.byethost9.com/russia.html#w252 of comprehensive catalog "VARIETIES OF EURO COINS".
