On obverse the coin depicts St Stephan praying on knees to the left surrounded by legend: S· STEPH .METE·, which means 'Saint Stephen of Metz'. The reverse depicts the shield with cross and round legend: MON EPI MET ENS, which means "Coin from the Bishopric of Metz". Most coins of emission are known with opposite die alignment ↑↓. This coin represents completely new variety: it has standard alignment ↑↑. For varieties lovers: recently with help of this very coin the main dies were discovered by the seller and standard classification was developed.

This coin was struck by dies II B with halo of sait crossing letter "S".
