The Kenyan coat of arms (two lions, symbols of protection, holding spears, and a traditional East African shield) divide date and value, with the shield of a forward-marching rooster holding an ax. The shield and lions stand on a silhouette of Mount Kenya along with Kenyan agricultural products. The coat of arms is supported by a scroll upon which is written 'Harambee', which in Swahili means "pulling together" or "all for one".
